The Christmas tree outside Uxbridge tube station will be switched on tomorrow as a whole host of festive events around Hillingdon get underway.

There will also be a town parade through Uxbridge tomorrow from 3.30pm – 5.30pm with various entertainment including a marching band.

The Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Carol Melvin, will be turning the Christmas tree lights on outside the tube station at 5pm.

A 33ft Christmas tree will be installed on the forecourt of the Civic Centre in Uxbridge, and spectators can watch the lights being switched on at 5.30pm on Friday 1 December. The event will also be attended by the Mayor and will include carols and seasonal music.

The Mayor will also be switching on the Christmas lights in Hayes town centre on Wednesday 22 November at St Anselm's Church, Station Road.

The Schools' Community Choir Hayes will perform a short concert in the church from 4pm. The Mayor will turn on the Christmas tree lights inside the Church at 4.30pm at the same time as the rest of the town centre lights and main tree in Station Road are scheduled to be lit.

The Schools' Community Choir Hayes is made up of children from a collection of Hayes Schools who are part of the Schools Community Cohesion Partnership.

Hillingdon Council announced it will be hosting its Countdown to Christmas event with free family activities happening each day leading up to Christmas at different locations across the borough, plus an array of concerts and choirs from the Hillingdon Music Hub.

Father Christmas will be landing his sleigh in front of the Civic Centre on Saturday 2 December and is inviting families to come and meet the live reindeer.

During the countdown events, there will also be street acts, live comedy acts, acrobatics, magic shows, circus trick performances and street theatre.

The council will also host its annual family pantomime at the Compass Theatre, which this year is Cinderella, and the library service will be delivering a special programme of seasonal group activities and recitals.

Councillor Richard Lewis, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Central Services, Culture and Heritage, said: “Following the success of our first Christmas advent calendar, our arts initiative will return with new acts and attractions to keep all of the family entertained and allow residents to embrace the festive spirit within our local community.

“The event will also showcase a range of the council’s services across the borough, such as libraries, theatres and adult learning centres. Come along to one of our events and celebrate the joy of Christmas with your neighbours.”
